According to the American Physical Therapy Association, “Physical therapists are movement experts who improve quality of life through prescribed exercise, hands-on care, and patient education.” This is no exception at Savannah Speech & Hearing Center! Our pediatric physical therapist utilizes therapeutic play to optimize a patient’s quality of life.
Physical therapy helps improve a child’s movement, range of motion, strength, coordination, balance and functional ability, to name just a few. Our physical therapists work with each child and family to create a personalized program that meets individual needs.

What To Expect At Your First Visit?
Our physical therapist will ask for a detailed medical and treatment history of your child. This part of the evaluation process will allow you to work as a team with your physical therapist. Shared decision making and goal setting are an important part of building your plan of care. Your child’s range of motion, strength, endurance, and coordination may be addressed. Specific outcome measures will be completed to help track progress from visit to visit.
Be prepared to receive homework! Your physical therapist is just one piece of the equation and we will work with you to establish a program inside and outside of our skilled visits.
At each visit, your physical therapist may use a variety of techniques to meet your goals, which may include:
- Strengthening
- Stretching
- Soft tissue mobilizations
- Joint mobilizations
- Taping
- Aerobic exercise
- Developmental activities
