The Hammond for Hope Benefit for Sound Start is an annual fundraising event that helps enable the continuation and growth of Sound Start, our early intervention, auditory/verbal program for children who are deaf or hard of hearing. The children enrolled have either cochlear implants or hearing aids as listening devices, both of which require several years of intensive auditory and verbal training to enable the children to recognize sounds and words, and develop speech skills.
Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of The Hammond for Hope organization, 100% of the proceeds from this event benefit Sound Start.

Sound Start is an intensive, multi-year program that helps these children learn to listen and speak during their most critical time for speech and language learning. Our goal is to enable them to learn to communicate effectively, so they may be mainstreamed into a typical elementary school classroom and to thrive. Our Sound Start kids receive audiological support, speech therapy as well as occupational therapy as needed from Savannah Speech & Hearing staff.
