Early Movement Milestones: We are glad to share how our pediatric physical therapist is supporting infant development at our Savannah Center.
The first year of life is packed full of milestones. Just as a parent is adjusting to life with a baby, skills such as lifting your head in tummy time or sitting happen for the first time. There are even mini triumphs between these achievements, such as reaching on their belly or grabbing their legs on their back. Often, babies need a little support to build the strength and coordination required to reach those goals. This can be as simple as making environmental adjustments or trying different positions to meet these skills.
At Savannah Speech and Hearing Center, Jenn Jones, a pediatric physical therapist and Board Certified Pediatric Clinical Specialist, is stepping in to offer support one milestone at a time through classes designed specifically for our youngest learners and their caregivers.

In those early months, the bar rises quickly. A newborn lying on their belly is a win! However, tummy time should come with an instructional manual because as we approach five months, we hope to see babies pushing up on their arms, shifting their weight, and beginning to explore the environment. By six months, we hope to see babies rolling, sitting, and showing signs of crawling. These changes happen quickly and are key components of infant development. Early movement plays a key role in preventing flattening in the back of the head and tight neck muscles.

Champions Developmental Classes at Savannah Speech & Hearing Center
This is where the Champions Developmental Classes come into play. These small, group based sessions are led by a board certified pediatric physical therapist who guides caregivers and babies through age-appropriate activities. This class provides expert guidance for caregivers while helping infants develop essential motor skills in a supportive and playful environment. While this class was designed to be educational, it does not replace physical therapy. It is a valuable resource for families looking to give their little ones a strong start. This also gives local families an opportunity to connect in a similar phase of life.

“We know that early intervention makes a big difference,” says Jenn Jones PT, DPT, a pediatric physical therapist at Savannah Speech & Hearing Center. “But just important is early education. We’re not just working with babies – we’re empowering caregivers with tools they can use every day.”
In recent months, Savannah Speech & Hearing Center has hosted three successful Tummy Time classes. The Center launched its first Crawling class, with enthusiastic participation from families across the Savannah, GA area. As babies grow, so do expectations and the support parents need. Our team is here to support parents through every new milestone. These classes fill a critical gap in early childhood resources, providing expert guidance in a warm, welcoming environment.
