In celebration of National Gardening Month in April, our Clinical Administrative Assistant, Jamie Mott, who is truly one in a melon, arranged an awesome gardening activity for our kids and Rehab clinicians.
Kids got to either give peas a chance or to choose basil, both of which are fast-sprouting plants. They then had step-by-step instructions on how to fill their planter cups with soil, bury the seeds, water them, and finally make each planter cup even cooler by adding their garden pun of choice. They decorated sun-catchers to make our little window garden all the more lovely and are maintaining a watering record, revisiting their plants at every appointment.
It’s been a great exercise for both speech and occupational therapies because it requires multi-step processing and has enabled good practice of social and pragmatic skills. Our occupational therapists have appreciated the exercise of fine motor control, sensory and texture exposure and dexterity training. In speech therapy, it’s been an awesome way to practice expressive language, focus and practical recall. This project has been kind of a big dill to everyone!
